Shimla is one of the most organised and well managed hill stations you can come across in India. It has a vintage vibe to its character thanks to the British architecture it possesses. Extremely photogenic, this place is a photographer’s delight! You can just not stop clicking your camera when you are there.
The main sightseeing places are Kufri, Jhakhu Hanuman temple, Mall, Ridge, Church, etc.
Kufri is a hill top destination which can be reached sitting on a horse back. It’s a 30 min one way horse ride. The horse union charges INR 500 Per person, per horse for your 2 way trip. Once you reach on the top, there are many adventure activity options, food joints, small shops selling woollens, souvenirs, etc. There is a telescope point from where you can view the Uttarakhand mountain peaks of Badrinath/ Kedarnath, Kailash peak, Indo-china border, Rancho’s house ( 3 Idiots), etc through a telescope. There is also a fun park, a hill top temple, a shooting point and few other attractions. It’s more scenic during winters ( Dec to Feb) when it is covered with snow.
#Jhakhu temple is one more beautiful Hanuman temple on a hilltop. You can reach the temple by 3 means- on foot, by car and by ropeway which starts at the Ridge. Only taxi union cars are allowed to go till the top. They charge around INR 350 per car for 2 way trip from the starting point. Ropeway charges are around INR 600 per person for 2 way transfers from the Ridge. The place is well known for its notorious monkeys and visitors are advised to take necessary precautions. In fact you can see signages regarding the monkey alerts all across Shimla.
The Mall road and the Ridge are the heart beats of Shimla and the most popular hangout locations. The place is the main hub of many activities is home to the local art gallery, theatre, clubs, market, banks, post office, food joints, etc. Most of these places are housed in vintage buildings and are a treat to your eyes. They are exceptionally beautiful and very well maintained by the local authorities.
The main roads of this hill town are broad and very well planned. Even the small internal roads are well built and have safety grills all around which is normally not seen at most Indian hill stations.
The rates of all union managed tourism activities are fixed and this leaves almost nil scope of being cheated for outsiders and tourists, which is a very big positive point.
Shimla will leave you impressed with its charm and flamboyance.
