Amritsar – better known as the city of Bravehearts and the city of martyrdom is an experience which you will cherish for your lifetime.
The city, the people, the lively temple complex and it’s market which never sleeps, the local food, the traditional phulkari textile industry, the Punjabi juttis, the kadas, the pagri shops will leave you asking for more. The vibrancy and the colours of the local markets will take your breath away. The newly developed temple complex is breathtakingly beautiful especially at night. The modern infrastructure with a traditional touch makes it a treat to watch in the evening after the sun sets.
The Golden Temple complex is constantly alive with people who come to seek the blessings from far flung places. You should ideally visit the temple twice, once during the day and once during the night. The beauty of the temple will leave you spellbound especially at night. We were lucky that we were also able to witness the cleaning process of the main temple in the centre of the sarovar at night. The dedication and spirit of service of the sevaks is extremely inspiring. If you have time, please do spend some time sitting near the sarovar and absorbing the positivity of the pious atmosphere at the temple.
JallianwalaBagh will leave you sad and disturbed. It was a goose bumps moment for me visiting this place and seeing the #shahidWell and the #walls with bulletmarks. Just imagining what would have happened to those thousands of innocent lives on that fateful day will leave you shaken. It will make you value the #freedom that we take for granted.
The #localmarket will leave you confused with varied options it offers you for local phulkari suits, juttis, pagris, kadas, and last but not the least the street food. The yummy Amritsar #kulchas served with dollops of butter, chole and achar, the mava #kulfi, the creamy #lassi, will leave you craving for more. It’s a heaven for window shoppers.
I wish I had one more day to experience this amazing place!
