Manali is one of the most popular hills stations of North India and has been a preferred holiday destination for honeymooners, families and groups for many years. Blessed with bountiful natural beauty and pleasant weather, it rightfully deserves this popularity.
Major local tourist attractions are solangvalley, hidimba temple, tibetan monastery, vashishtha springs, vanvihar, mall road, etc.
You can also do day trips to manikaran, kasol, naggarcastle.
Manali is also a very popular place for adventure activities like paragliding and river rafting.
One important point to be kept in mind when you travel around Manali is the additional time taken due to very bad road conditions. The bad road conditions add extra hours to your travel time due to long queues of traffic jams on highways as well as within the town.
Secondly local taxi unions does not allow outside commercial vehicles to park their vehicles near the markets and popular tourist attractions. So be prepared to walk a lot if you are not traveling in a local taxi union vehicle.
Manali is one of the 2 hubs along with Kashmir from where you can go on a road trip to Leh via #Rohtang #pass. This pass is covered with heavy snow for the most part of the year and is difficult to access. It opens for road travel for 4-5 months around mid June. Due to environmental concerns you need a special permit to visit this place when it is open. Again only local taxi union vehicles are allowed to visit this place beyond solang snow point when it is open.
Manali is a beautiful place but like many other places this place is also becoming a victim of over commercialization and most of it is unplanned. As tourists, we should behave responsibly in keeping this place clean and pollution free.
